A LITTLE ABOUT MY BEGINNINGS
A TALENT, A GIFT
My name is Patricia D. Tucker and I’ve always loved sewing and making handmade gifts for others since taking Home Economics in high school. Upon graduation from high school I worked as a sewing machine operator for a local sewing factory before enrolling in Virginia State University as a Home Economics student. Upon graduation I became a Home Economics Teacher. I retired in 2008 after thirty years of teaching.
One night as I was searching the internet for a gift, I happened to watch a tutorial on how to make a star quilt by Jenny of the Missouri Star Quilt Company. I was so inspired by the tutorial that I watched quilt tutorials for many days and nights. Then, I visited all the quilt shops in the area, and searched Pinterest and Etsy where I found all kinds of quilt ideas. I started piecing my first three quilts while sitting with my sick mother. I have kept them as special heirlooms in memory of her.
My children gave me my first quilting and embroidery machine (Brother) in 2008 as a gift for Christmas. However, my dream was to own a heavy duty, new, Baby Lock Embroidery Machine so that I could enhance my quilts. In August 2017, God blessed me with a brand-new Baby-Lock Flourish II. A dream come true to do embroidery in addition to quilting.
I welcome the opportunity to create the quilt of your dreams. My goal is to create custom, individually designed, warm and snuggly quilts for customers who value originality. Hopefully they will be usable, beautiful, and appreciated for generations to come.
I want to thank the following people for a wealth of inspiration: Jeanny of the Missouri Star Quilt Company, Deanne Davis of the Creative Quilting Company, Jody Hirchfeld of Jody’s Longarm Quilting Studio, my friend Rose, and my family, especially my grandchildren, Zihyon and Zayla.
